So I put the "Fiddler Fretter" on my Violin today and took off "The No Fret Sticker"

I am a long time Guitar and Bass player, so having the frets helps me a lot with the Violin, but it is amazing what you get used to. The color of the No Fret Sticker versus the no color of the Fiddler Fretter. But the Fiddler Fretter looks way better on the Violin. Makes it look way more professional, and it is dark. I think in the long run, if I can get used to the Fiddler Fretter, it will make it easier to transition to no frets when I am ready.

But I got used to that color of the No Fret sticker, so I am having a hard time playing and feeling like I don't know where I am going with the all black Fiddler Fretter.

For cryminee sakes, Doc!  If God, (ie: Amati, Strad, etc.) wanted frets on a violin, he would have put them there!!!  :D

Just kidding...I'm thinking of trying the Fiddle Fretter myself.  My white tapes are starting to get gooey and move around a bit.  I think that they're actually melting, due to the heat produced from my super fast fingering and playing...LOL.  ;)

I really want to get to the point soon, where I don't have to constantly look at where my fingers are going down.  Going by feel with the fiddle fretter has some appeal to me.  Of course, eventually, I hope to just go by ear, but that might be a ways off.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Thanks for the comments everyone. It will take some getting used too, that is for sure, but I really like the look. It is much better.  I tried to start the Violin without a fret sticker, but I was having way to hard of a time, getting close to the right tone, with quality, pitch, etc.

I have a tough enough time doing that with the fret sticker on, little on off. When I am ready, I will take it off, but it is going to be awhile. But yeah, I would think learning the Violin without the fret sticker would be best, but for me. I need it.

Hi Doc, I have guitar experience and enough learning curve experience with the violin to suggest that you are probably doing yourself a disservice by training yourself to depend on the superficial fret-appliques, instead of developing your muscle and touch memories ; remembering that the violin has so many more tonal opportunities than a guitar, which you can only stretch a string to attain, that ...in all likelihood, frustration and indifference will set in before advanced playing pleasure will.......and the violin will find the closet before its time.....

Personally, I found the beginners tapes to be mocking my lack of ability.....They had to go ..ASAP !    Sure , ego ! But ego helped put a little 'peak' to the learning curve !!....please, no offense intended..just what I've come to realize during my voyage in the rough surf- launching,  from  the beach of violin beginners.........George# on the Gulf of Mexico.

Hi Doc!
I've heard your great performances ! Hopefully the transitions will be smooth ones. I guess it will take a little time to get acquainted with the new fingerboard arrangement, but I am sure past the new learning curve you'll succeed !

Hopefully we can enjoy video posts with the new fretter sticker soon! :0)

Keep on fiddlin' !

Hi Doc,glad to see i'm not the only black sheep anymore :)
If you are using the all black sticker and having trouble "finding" your place you can try putting some white dots with a white permanent marker. It will wipe off with alcohol when you don't need them.
I put a little dot on the 3rd,5th and 7th fret (like the guitar) but it is probably better to mark the first position (2nd fret first finger and 7th fret fourth finger).
The fret filaments are 0.25mm nylon and they wear down gradually with use ,eventually we will be playing "fretless" even if the sticker is on.
